Chief Commercial Officer – Renewable Energy – Uganda/DRC
My client is a Venture Capital backed renewable Energy company that has attracted funding from European sources. They are currently bringing clean energy solutions to several African countries reducing the need for polluting diesel generation power
As Chief Commercial Officer, you will spearhead consumer-facing efforts to maximize the Company’s revenues and profitability. This includes increasing electricity sales and the socioeconomic benefits of energy access by promoting productive use applications in off-grid and underserved areas. You will lead strategic initiatives to identify, develop, and scale up productive-use-of energy solutions and revenue enhancing initiatives, working collaboratively with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders to drive bottom line, innovation and impact.
Key Responsibilities and qualifications.
- Sales and Revenues:
- Drive customer revenues with a dual benchmark on (i) project-based EBITDA and (ii) average revenue per user (ARPU)
- Drive electricity sales
- Drive price differentiation around tariff and bundling so as to maximise profitability at a project level as well as overall.
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in energy management, engineering, economics, business administration, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
– Proven consumer facing experience as a Commercial Manager, or similar role, with a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in sales, marketing, or business development.
– Proven experience in market assessments, business feasibility and viability analysis, business modelling and business planning
– Understanding of renewable energy technologies, energy economics, and market dynamics in off-grid and underserved regions.
– Proven experience
– Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and mobilize teams, partners, and stakeholders toward common goals.
– Excellent project management abilities, including planning, budgeting, monitoring, and evaluation.
– Effective communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse audiences, from local communities to high-level policymakers.
– Experience working in multicultural settings and collaborating with diverse stakeholders across sectors and disciplines.
– Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, as required.
– Fluent in English
– Knowledge of French or Swahili is a plus
– Preferred candidates have started and led businesses themselves
